A Celebration of Dominican Caribbean Culture
Carnaval de Cabarete 2027 will bring together music, dance, costumes, community, and cultural tourism in one of the Dominican Republic’s most vibrant coastal destinations. Set in Cabarete, Puerto Plata, the festival celebrates the energy of the Caribbean while honoring the traditions and creative identity of the Dominican people.
More than a colorful parade, the carnival offers an opportunity to experience local artistry, live performances, culinary traditions, and the welcoming spirit of the community. Cabarete’s beaches, international atmosphere, and strong connection to outdoor culture provide a distinctive setting for this annual celebration.
Discover the Sankyjuelo
At the heart of Carnaval de Cabarete is the Sankyjuelo, a unique coastal reinterpretation of the traditional Dominican diablo cojuelo. With expressive costumes, imaginative design, and a powerful connection to the sea, this character represents the creative voice of Cabarete and its surrounding communities.
The Escuela Sankyjuelo helps preserve and develop this cultural expression by encouraging artistic participation, teaching costume traditions, and connecting younger generations with Dominican carnival heritage. Its work demonstrates how traditional characters can evolve while maintaining their cultural meaning.
Music, Dance, and Community Spirit
The festival program will feature a variety of activities for residents and visitors, including comparsas, cultural presentations, concerts, community gatherings, and carnival events connected to Cabarete and Sosúa. Specific dates, prices, participants, and event details should be confirmed through official announcements.
Some activities may be free, while others may require tickets or registration. Visitors are encouraged to follow the official festival information for program updates, participation opportunities, and practical guidance.
